Kathleen M. Cayen

Kathleen "Kathy" M. (Smith) Cayen, 81, of Bridgeport passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 5, 2023 at St. Joseph's Hospital. Kathy was born in Syracuse, NY on November 6, 1941 to parents Lloyd A. Smith, Sr. and Catherine Mae Wicks. Kathy was one of 15 children and she always had plenty of stories of growing up in a house full of so many kids. She attended Syracuse Central High School and on June 4, 1960 married her husband, Lloyd Cayen (Luggie). They were married just a few months short of 50 years when Lloyd passed away on February 3, 2010. Kathy loved her pets and made sure her cat, Ebbie Ann, had a loving home to go to before she passed away. Kathy loved going to the casino and never passed up a sweet.
Kathy was predeceased by her brothers and sisters, Richard, Shirley, Donald, Frederick, Theodore, Lloyd, Jr. "Scooch", Francis, James, Thomas, Maureen "Reenie", Suzanne and Colin "Bengie".
Kathy is survived by her sister, Charlene "Chicki" Procopio and brother, George. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, god-children and especially great-niece, Brittany Marks who called Aunt Kathy her "Nana". Kathy is also survived by sister-in-law, Diana Smith who made sure Kathy's computer was always working so she could play her games and follow family on Facebook; nieces, Johanna and Mary, who helped with taking care of Kathy until the very end and friend and neighbor, Diane Traver.
Family would like to extend a thank you to the ER staff and nurses on 1-4 floors at St. Joseph's Hospital for their care over the past week. Finally a huge thank you to Dr. Brian Kline who made Kathy's face light up when he entered the room. She finally found a doctor she loved!
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, March 9th 4-6pm at New Comer Cremations & Funerals in N. Syracuse. A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 10th at 11am at the funeral home with burial to follow in North Syracuse Cemetery.
