Julia Evelyn (Ev) Osborne was born in Syracuse, NY in 1926. Her mother and father were Julia Blydenburgh and Roy Horst.
After completing high school in 1944, she enrolled in the newly created Syracuse University (SU) College of Nursing, eventually graduating with an MS in nursing. She went on to become an Associate Professor in Nursing at SU, where she remained for 35 years.
She won a fellowship in Adult Primary Care Nursing at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY while combating breast cancer. In addition, she pioneered a primary care nurse practitioner program at SU with Rosemary Lape and with her colleague Bobbi Harris. After her retirement, she was a dedicated grandmother and a volunteer to the Sunshine Horses organization.
Evelyn's values were family, family and family. Her grandchildren's lives were enriched by her passion for classical music, opera and ballet. Guests to her home were often treated to deep meaningful discussions on politics, medicine and progressive social issues. She enjoyed time in her garden, or playing her piano, often surrounded by her children and grandchildren. Her family and friends always saw her home as a place of warmth and love.
Evelyn is survived by her husband of 38 years, Vance Osborne. She is also survived by her Brother, Robert Horst and Family, Christopher (Sheri) Starr, Katherine Starr, Autumn (Rich Baier) Starr, Jeanie (Roslyn) Osborne and Eileen Driscoll. They were all blessed by her motherly love. Her grandchildren; Alex and Sean Starr-Baier, Brett (Starr) Vergara, Michael and Samuel Starr, Daniel, Noah and Alexis Osborne.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Dr. Alden Bradley Starr in 2013.
