Judith (Abonyi), 88, of Jamesville, was born in Budapest Hungary on May 23, 1930.
She was a holocaust survivor who escaped from her native land during the Hungarian Revolution of 1956 and came to Syracuse with her husband and two small children. She was a devoted wife and homemaker and loving mother to her five children. She was an avid gardener, bridge player, and opera lover. She obtained the distinction of Life Master from the American Contract Bridge society. She did this in her husband's honor, as he was unable to achieve the title before his death. She was an entrepreneur and purchased her own employment agency- Triad Personnel at the age of 50. As an opera lover, she volunteered for the Syracuse Opera company and later started the opera club at the Nottingham where she organized outings to see the Met Live! at the local movie theater. After 47 loving years her husband Andy passed away in 1995. She later moved to California where she met and married Byron Vaughan in 2002. After his passing in 2009 she lived in Peachtree City, GA and then back to Syracuse, NY in 2012. At the Nottingham, she discovered many friends both old and new. As an avid reader she actively participated in the Nottingham book club. All that knew her will deeply miss her and her beautiful balcony filled with flowers and butterflies!
Judith was predeceased by her first husband, Andrew Zatony in 1995; second husband, Byron Vaughan in 2009; and great grandson, Andrew Tracy in 2019.
She is survived by her sister, Marianne (Herbert) Cooper; her daughters, Lily (Chuck) Schultz, Kathy (Tom) Parquette, Susan (Mark) Haubenstock, Margaret (Brian) Wengert; a son, Leslie (Robin) Zatony; grandchildren, Christina (Steve) Tracy, Beth and Alex Haubenstock, Danny and Molly Zatony, Robert, Sarah, & Laura Wengert; great grandchildren, Morgan and Ethan Tracy; step-grandchildren, Adam and Nathan Schultz and many nieces and nephews.
