Joyce Anne Roberts Brown
February 10, 2006
Joyce went home to be with the Lord February 10, 2006. She was born September 4, 1942 and grew up in Newark Valley, NY. A graduate of SUNY Oneonta (BS of Ed) and SUNY Cortland (MS of Ed), she taught at Brewerton Elementary School for many years. In 1983, she graduated with an MLS of Library Science from Syracuse University. First at Minoa Library and then, for more than 10 years at NOPL Brewerton, she was a librarian. Her love for the written word was expressed in her personal and public life. As a Christian and United Methodist, she had taken lay speaker classes and delivered children's sermons at Brewerton United Methodist Church. As an educator, she taught countless children to read and write. As her career path changed, she enjoyed assisting library patrons. She more recently was a graduate of the Dale Carnegie Training Course. Whether listening to friends, researching family genealogy, or just reading, she was always engaged. She transferred to Cicero United Methodist Church about 10 years ago and enjoyed singing in the choir. She is predeceased by her parents, George "Kemp" Roberts and Louise Huttel Roberts, and her great niece, Kendra Wiesing. She is celebrated and survived by her devoted husband, Willard E. Brown (Brewerton) and daughter, Merinda Brown (Syracuse), sisters, Nancy Bush Klock (Berkshire) and Shirley (James) Edic (Westmoreland) and her beloved mother-in-law, Marleta Leonard Brown. Other survivors include her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held at Cicero United Methodist Church on Saturday at 12 noon. Burial will be in the Hope Cemetery in Newark Valley, NY. Friends may visit with her family from 10 to12 noon before services.
Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to the Cicero-United Methodist Church Choir and NOPL Brewerton.
