Joyce A. Alden, 86, of North Syracuse, passed away with family by her side on August 1, 2023. Joyce was born in Belleville, New Jersey on May 1, 1937 to Stacey and Mildred Oberman.
In her younger years, Joyce worked at Woldorf Astoria jewelry store in NYC. She also worked for the Secretary for Minority Leader. While working in NYC she met her husband, Herb. After the birth of her two children, she devoted her life to family, and moved to Phoenix, NY. There, she began to attend Church of the Living Word, and her husband and children soon followed her lead. Her whole life was centered around her love for her Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.
After moving to Syracuse, she volunteered for over 20 years at Living Word Academy where she taught chorus, played the piano in the High School chapel, helped in classes and helped at the school in any way she could. She and her husband loved to sing and were classically trained vocalists. They were well known for the duets and singing at church and family gatherings. Music was always part of their lives, if they were not performing their own they were listening and enjoying music.
After she was widowed she went on to live with her daughter, Heather, in North Syracuse over the last five years of her life.
With special heartfelt thanks and gratitude to Sister Debbie Ingersol, Sister Marlene McCracken, Sister Tracy Duke, Sister Amy Farley, and Sister Alice VanDusen.
She was preceded in death by her Husband of 38 years, Herb Alden; Father, Stacey Oberman; Mother, Mildred (Orr) Oberman; and Brother, Donald Oberman.
