The family of Josette Capece of Cicero, NY are saddened to announce that she passed away on March 18, 2024 after a courageous battle with metastatic breast cancer. She was surrounded by her loving husband and children as eternal rest was granted unto her.
Josette was born on September 20, 1938 in Paris, France. Bravely surviving WWII, she went on to study at the University of Paris and Sorbonne for the Arts. She met her future husband, Nick, while he was serving in the U.S. Army stationed in France. After getting married in 1958 in Paris, they moved to the United States to begin their lives together. Josette and Nick lived in the Bronx, NY for a short period of time before moving to New City in Rockland County, NY. It was there that they raised their two children before retiring to Cicero, NY in 2005 to be closer to them.
Josette is survived by her husband of 66 years, Nick Capece; two children, her daughter, Nicole (John) George of Phoenix, NY, and her son, Kirk (Christine) Capece of Cicero, NY; and four grandchildren, Jonathan, Caitlin, Nicholas and Dean. Josette doted on her grandchildren, and was lovingly known as "Mémé" to them all. Forever proud of her grandchildren, she bragged about their accomplishments to everyone she met. One of four children herself, Josette was predeceased by her brothers, Maurice and Roger, and her sister, André Mary.
Josette was an incredibly strong and resilient person with an enormous heart and a wonderful sense of humor. Right up until her final day, she always found a way to smile, kid around, laugh and give kisses to her family (two on each cheek). She was a matriarch who relished being called "Queen" by her adoring family. She loved good food, especially French food and fine chocolate. She enjoyed birdwatching, dogs, airplanes and travel, as well as watching Forensic Files, mysteries and tennis on television. She was an avid tennis fan who especially loved cheering for Roger Federer over Rafael Nadal. Josette spent each morning reading and adding her personal, often witty, comments to the newspaper for all to enjoy, and she was thoughtful enough to always save the comics to give to her grandchildren. She enjoyed telling stories about her fascinating life and those who were fortunate enough to hear them, will continue to share them. She will never be forgotten. Her memory will be kept alive in our hearts forever. Je t'aime et Adieu chérie.
A parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Cicero, Josette will be remembered and celebrated with a funeral mass and gathering to be held this Spring.
