Josephine S. Rurka, nee Ciesielski, 96, of Syracuse, passed away on Tuesday at Iroquois Nursing Home. She was born in Syracuse on 8/2(17)/17 to Boleslaw and Frances Ciesielski. She received her education through the Syracuse School System. She was married to Anthony Rurka on October 11, 1941 and was married for 57 years until his death on March 5, 1998. Despite her hearing loss, she raised two loving children who will remember her for all of eternity.
She is survived by her daughter, JosephineAnne ; and son, Andrew; three sisters, Sophie, Lillian and Stella; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be Tuesday, 10:30 AM at New Comer Funeral Home, 705 N. Main St., N. Syracuse. Burial will follow at Assumption Cemetery. Calling hours will be Monday from 4-7PM at the funeral home.
Josephine's family would like to thank the entire staff at Iroquois Nursing Home, especially floors 3 and 1, who provided her loving care for 6 years. A heartfelt thank you to those few special caregivers who were with her from the beginning.
Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made in their mother's memory to Iroquois Nursing Home, Floor 3 Activity Fund, 4600 Southwood Heights Drive, Jamesville, NY 13078 or a charity of your choice.
