Josephine Martino, 86, of Cicero, went to her golden home on March 16, 2011. Born in Brooklyn on March 17, 1924. Josephine moved to the Liverpool area as a teenager and later married John. She and John moved to Cicero in the early 1960's. Josephine worked at Moheagen Market and she owned and operated Martino's Restaurant in Cicero for 16 years with her husband, John. Josephine also was a bookkeeper for Martino's Pizza for 4 years.
Josephine enjoyed spending time with her daughter, Donna and grandchildren. She loved cooking and baking on holidays. She liked her trips to the Casino and was a big fan of the Mets, days of laziness on the Lake, as she called them, having a cold beer, watching birds and fishing. Josephine is a member of Sacred Heart Church and the Altar Rosary Society.
Josephine is predeceased by her husband, John, daughter, Geraldine, son, John Jr., sister, Carmella Grande and son-in-law, Jim.
Josephine leaves those of us that loved her broken hearted; daughter, Donna (Nathan Powless) Cerone; Cousin, Patricia Rizzo; grandchildren, Tammy (Bob) Haught, Christine (Wade) Winslow, Mark (Susan) Martino, William (Christine) Powell, Randall (Amy) Cerone, Nicholas Edwards, Dale (Jennifer) Gillette, John Cerone; eleven great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren; several brother and sister in laws and many nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to Thank the Great Team on 2-5 at St. Joseph's Hospital for the Excellent care they gave our wonderful mom, grandmother. A special thank you to Father Gehl of Sacred Heart Parish.
Services will be Tuesday, 9:30 AM at Sacred Heart Church, Cicero. Burial will follow at the North Syracuse Cemetery. Calling hours will be Monday from 4-7 PM at New Comer Funeral Home, 705 N. Main St., N. Syracuse.
