Joseph Vincent Zinga, 73, of Rockledge, Florida, formerly of Liverpool, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on Friday, December 4th, at Francis House, after a five month battle with cancer.
Joe was born on April 22, 1936 in Syracuse to James and Carmella Zinga. He grew up on the northeast side of Syracuse. In 1953 he enlisted in the United States Marine Corp and was stationed in Korea at the end of the Korean War. He was employed by Syracuse Carpet Service for fifteen years, where he learned the carpet installation trade. He owned and operated his own carpet installation business for thirty five years. Joe raised his family in Liverpool before retiring to Rockledge, Florida in 2003. He enjoyed traveling and camping for many years before settling at Brennan Beach, where he continued to spend his summers for the past twenty five years. For many years he was a Syracuse basketball season ticket holder. In his later years he spent many weekend mornings and afternoons playing golf. He always enjoyed home improvement projects and often had one in the works. Joe was a kind and generous man and will be sorely missed by his many friends and family.
Joe is survived by his wife of forty nine years, Carole (Baldwin) Zinga, his five daughters; Dawn, Laurie, Wendy, Suzanne and Jennifer; his five grandchildren; Michael, Eric, Kayla, Jackie, and Jake and his brother, Richard Zinga.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, December 9th from 4-7pm at New Comer funeral home at 705 N. Main Street, North Syracuse, funeral services will follow at 7pm.
