Joseph M. "Joe" Sweet, 87, of North Syracuse, passed away on Thursday at the VA Medical Center. He was born on October 10, 1926 son of the late Joseph and Victoria Sweet. He served in the US Navy during WW II and worked for James E. Strates Show Carnival. Joe at one time owned his own restaurant called Big Joe's in Cherokee, NC. Joe enjoyed reading the Bible. He enjoyed cooking, SU Sports, NY Yankees and dancing with his wife, Mitzi. Joe especially loved spending time with his family.
Surviving are his wife Dorothy "Mitzi" Pirro of 12 years, son Jonathan Sweet (David Flewelling), his step-children: Nancy Pirro, Marianne (Mark) Weatherup, Dominick Pirro, 3 grandchildren: Caleigh, Mark Paul, Jr., Shaelyn Weatherup,along with many, many nieces and nephews, especially Maureen & Phyllis.
Calling hours will be held on Monday from 4-7pm at New Comer Funeral Home, 705 N. Main St., N. Syracuse, with services to follow. Burial will take place at Onondaga Veteran's Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
