Joseph F. Smith, 52, passed away on August 6th. Joe was born in Syracuse, NY to Barbara (Otis) and Robert Smith. He was a 1987 graduate of Cicero High School and attended LeMoyne College and SUNY Oswego. Joe was a longtime employee of Syracuse University, his last position was Executive Assistant to the Director of Burton Blatt Institute at the Syracuse University College of Law.

Joe was known for his quick wit and dry humor and loved a good practical joke. In his spare time, he loved spending time with his family, cooking, was an avid collector of comics and comic memorabilia, and fostered his creative side by creating characters and stories within the Dungeons and Dragons realms.

Joe was predeceased by his father, Robert Smith.

He is survived by his wife of 10 years, Renee (Krupka) Hagar-Smith; stepson, Jaime Hagar; mother, Barbara; siblings, Lori (Dabien), Robert (Jannet) and Lynn and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 28th at 10 AM at New Comer Cremations & Funerals with burial to follow in Pine Plains Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Helping Hounds Dog Rescue in North Syracuse.
