Joseph Macina

June 10, 1979 — March 19, 2020

Joseph Macina, 40, of Warners passed away March 19, 2020 after a yearlong battle with brain cancer. He fought hard and was loved, and will be missed by many.

Joe was born in Syracuse, NY on June 10th, 1979 to Linda and Robert Macina. Joe worked at G.W. Lisk in Clifton Springs, up until his Stage 4 Glioblastoma diagnosis, back in April of 2019. He was a huge Buffalo Bills fan, loved blasting rap and rock music, and enjoyed playing video games in his free time. Joe was the type of person to give you the shirt off his back, and you could often find him hiking towards a waterfall with his loved ones. He was a big supporter of equality for everyone, and we will all remember him for his declaration of spreading love, not hate.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Constance & Andrew Pascarella, and his paternal grandparents, Emma Mae & Joseph Macina. He is survived by his children, Lilly & Camille Macina; his parents, Linda & Robert Macina; his sisters, Mary McNeely (Denver, CO) & Jennefer Cheevers (Camillus, NY); his niece and nephews, Rose, Mark & William Cheevers, and best buddy & furry friend, a black cat named Salem.

A special thank you to his best friend, Eric Hampson, who made him laugh every opportunity he got, he was lucky to have a friend like you. A big thank you to all of his family and friends who talked to and spent time with Joe in the last year of his life, we know it meant the world to him to hear from and spend time with those he loved. To all of his "adopted kids", he loves you just as much as his real kids. To all of the nurses and doctors at Upstate University and on the 10th floor for Oncology, thank you for taking care of him in his last days and dealing with our family chaos. The loss of Joe leaves a big empty hole in all of our hearts and lives, and we will all miss him very much.

Services for Joe have been cancelled due to the current environment surrounding the coronavirus. Thank you for your understanding during this challenging time. A celebration of life will be scheduled for his birthday this year, virus/quarantine-depending.
