It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Joseph Ferris Hubel of Baldwinsville, born December 23, 1938. Joe left us on February 15, 2025 while at home, surrounded by his family. He was a remarkable man, known for his incredible work ethic, kindness and unwavering love for his family and friends.
A proud Marine, he carried the same integrity, dedication and commitment into every aspect of his life. He was smart, a fixer, a DIY enthusiast, recently remodeling his entire kitchen and a true problem solver who always knew how to get things done. A practical and thoughtful man, he was always there for those who needed him, never shying away from a challenge or giving advice.
Joe leaves behind his wife of 55 years, Claudia (Baldwin); six children, Susan Potter, Michael (Diana) Hubel, William (Karen) Hubel, Jaye (Tom) Tsounis, Heather (Phil) Ryder and Toshia (William) Hanlon; 13 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; his brother, Charlie Hubel; and brother-in-law, Waynord Baldwin. Joe was immensely proud of his family and cherished time spent with them. His sense of humor, infectious personality and ability to make friends easily left a lasting impression on everyone he met. Whether as a friend, a mentor, or a conversationalist, Joe had a gift for connecting with others. His smile was warm and his hugs were sincere. He made his family feel loved and safe.
Joe was an avid boater and past Commodore of the Anchorage Yacht Club. He spent years as a member of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary as Flotilla Commander and in 1989 received Flotilla Commander of the Year. He proudly served his community in many capacities.
Professionally, Joe spent the majority of his life investing in real estate and as a landlord. Earlier in his life, Joe was a dedicated claims adjuster, where he met his wife and the love of his life, Claudia. Their partnership was a true testament to the love, devotion and joy they shared throughout their marriage. They spent years boating and driving snow mobiles with friends and traveling across the country in their motor home. In recent years, they often spent time just being together watching the birds, feeding the chipmunks and always laughing.
Joe is predeceased by his father, Joseph (Helen) Hubel; mother, Laura Hubel (Battle); his first wife and forever friend, Buffy Hobbs and several friends including his best friend, Jay Britschge.
He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter and generosity that will be carried on by those he held dear.
