Joseph M. Daino, 80, passed away Sunday, December 29, 2013 at the Francis House surrounded by his family, ending a valiant battle with cancer. He was born July 17, 1933in Syracuse, New York. He moved from his homestead on Wadsworth Street to where he made a home for his family in North Syracuse with his loving wife Kay Sarna Daino for 54 years.

He was a graduate of Syracuse Central High School and he attended Syracuse University. He went on to serve his country proudly through the United States Army during the Korean War. Joe retired from Niagara Mohawk. He was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church in North Syracuse where he serves as a Eucharistic Minister. He was a member of the American Legion in Cicero and the North Sportsman Club. He was an avid sportsman enjoying golfing, fishing, hunting and trap shooting. He particularly enjoyed time spent hunting deer on Eaton Hill in the Southern Tier. He also favored the summers he spent at his cottage on Sandy Pond.

His parents Muriel Morgan Daino and Joseph William Daino predeceased him. In addition to his wife, surviving to cherish endless memories are his children Judith M. Rice, Paul J. Daino (Terie Delahunt-Daino), Thomas M. Daino (Amy Daino) and grandchildren Megan Sterling, Courtney, Ashleigh, Jared, and Mikayla Rice, Haleigh, Collin, Brian, Whitney, and Zachary Daino and one great grandson, Maddox Rice. Also surviving are his only sister Muriel (Cathy) Daino Tufts and his brother-in-law Ralph Tufts. Chloe, his loyal cocker spaniel remains behind to guard his house and keep company to Kay.

Family and friends will be received at New Comer Funeral Home, 709 N. Main Street, North Syracuse on Thursday, January 2nd from 4:00 – 7:00 PM. A mass of Catholic celebration will be held at St. Rose Lima Church at 10:00 AM on Friday January 3rd.
