Joseph James Bialek

April 25, 1920 — March 5, 2017

Joseph James Bialek, 96, of Clay, NY passed away on March 5th at St. Joseph's Hospital.

Born in New York Mills, NY on April 25, 1920 to parents Adalberto and Maria Bialek, Joseph attended Whitesboro High School where he was active in sports (including basketball, baseball, and golf) while excelling at his studies.

He graduated from Syracuse University in 1943 with a Bachelor of Science and then entered the Army.

He served in the Philippines, Japan, and Korea before being honorably discharged in 1946 at the rank of captain. After leaving the military he pursued and obtained his MBA at Syracuse University. Joseph taught Accounting and Computer Science at Utica College from 1946-1977 while also spending some time coaching basketball, baseball, and golf at the junior varsity and varsity levels. During those years as an instructor he helped found the department store Jamesway and obtained a patent in 1972 for his "Compulogical Tutor", which demonstrated the logic inherent in the digital computers emerging at that time and received a place in the Smithsonian Institution's Museum of History and Technology. Joseph was also an avid golfer beginning at age of seven continuing through his early 90's. He shot nine holes-in-one (with his first coming at age 42) and won several amateur tournaments, including club championships at Lakeshore Yacht & Country Club where he was a member for many years.

Joseph loved his family and was blessed by the uniqueness of his children and grandchildren.

He was pre-deceased by his first wife, Wanda the mother of Janet, Jim and John. He is survived by his wife Lisa, eight children - Janet, Jim (Pat), John, Jason (Heather), Jeremy (Julie), Joel (Marcella), Jakim, and Julianna, eighteen grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.

In keeping with Joseph's wishes there will be no formal calling hours.

Services and burial in St. Stanislaus & St. Casimir Societies Cemetery (Whitesboro, NY) will be private.

In lieu of flowers, and to honor Joseph's passion to provide his children and the next generations with quality education, contributions may be made to the Utica College Annual Fund.
