Joseph M. Bateman, 64, of West Monroe, passed away June 29, 2024 in the arms of his loving wife. After a 15year courageous battle with AL Amyloidosis, his fight has ended and he was called home. Joseph was born in Syracuse, New York on December 5, 1959 to Maurice and Marie Bateman. Joseph retired from Eckerd Drugs, Syracuse, N.Y. Joe was an avid sports fan, he enjoyed watching and playing many sports. He was very competitive and enjoyed winning. Joe loved his L.A. Rams, the Yankees, Boston Celtics, Boston Bruins, UCLA Bruins and NASCAR driver Rusty Wallace. He was well known in many community leagues including softball, bowling, horseshoes and pitch.
He was preceded in death by his father, Maurice Bateman; mother, Marie Bateman; and brother, James Bateman.
Joe is survived by his wife of 29 years, Mary S. Bateman; son, Adam (Mariah); step sons, Todd (Kristy) and Jon (Jillian); and his precious dog, Jasper; beloved grandchildren who loved their Papa, Lily, Kayden, Jonathan, Cameron, Owen, Rosie, Isla, Carter, Jazmine, Frankie, Nova and Julian; siblings, Terry Bateman, Dona (Mike) Hall and Bonnie (Bob) Davis; and several cherished nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart.
Special thanks to Dr. Pawan Rao and team, Dr. Vaishali Sanchorawala and the team at Amyloidosis Center at Boston Medical Center and Dr. Anita Pudusseri and the team at Hematology-Oncology Associates of CNY, who have cared for Joe over the duration of his illness.
Calling hours will be held Friday, July 5, 2024 from 12-3PM at New Comer Cremations and Funerals, where a funeral service will follow at 3PM.
