John Lawrence Wentling, 61 of Clay, New York, passed away peacefully at his home, after a brief fight with Acute Myeloid Leukemia, John is predeceased by his parents Rhonda Boisey(Donald) and James Wentling.
John is survived by his wife of 29 years Theresa Wentling and his son John Douglas Wentling, his beloved dogs Daisy, Reba and Princess. He is also survived by his brother James(Lorraine) Wentling and family Leslie, Christina, Shannon, Jennifer and Elizabeth. His sisters Theresa(Michael) Clifford and family Melissa, Rebecca, John and Ryan; Debbie Barnard and family Samantha. Sister-in-law Katheryn(Jody) Exner and family Matthew, Stacie and Ashley, brothers-in-law Mark (Mary Ann) Goettel and family Brianna and Emily; James(Kathleen) Goettel and family Barbara. He is also survived by his many great nieces and nephews, cousins and his Godmother Margot(John) Lux.
John was a proud Navy Veteran who served on the USS Midway, USS Capodonno and the USS Battleship New Jersey from 1978-1985 where he met and became lifelong friends with Fred(Linda) Shilling. He then worked as a computerized drafter and was a handyman who could fix anything until his retirement. He enjoyed camping and was an avid SU fan with his son. In lieu of flowers the family is asking to donate Griffins Guardians.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday March 2nd from 4-6pm at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 705 N. Main St., N. Syracuse. A funeral mass will be held on
Thursday March 3rd at 10am at Sacred Heart Church, Cicero. Burial will take place at Onondaga County Veterans Cemetery.
