John Harold Rudy went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on May 13, 2023 in Syracuse, New York, where he resided since 1959. Born on January 1, 1938 in Oakmont, Pennsylvania, he was the son of Pearle Fowkes Rudy and John "Jack" Filmore Rudy.
He was predeceased by his wife of 44 years, Barbara J. Rudy; son, Michael E. Rudy; and grandson, David M. Glanzer.
John is survived by 7 children and step-children; Debra (Mark) Rudy Glanzer of North Carolina, John (Patti) Rudy, Jr. of Baldwinsville, Earl (Michelle) Rudy of Phoenix, NY, Alisa Phyllis Rudy Neskovich of Phoenix, AZ, Brenda (Bob) Tracy of Central Square, Mark (Robyn) Bingham of Pennellville and Kim (Jay) Posenauer of Camillus; 19 grandchildren, Jessica, Brendan, Matt, Alan, Dara, Sara, Aaron, Janelle, Mikayla, Shannon, Brandi, Ashley, Parker, Josh, Mallory, Hannah, Mariah, Lucas and Ian; 10 great grandchildren; and many friends that helped him along the way.
John was the owner and operator of Rudy Excavating. He was an outstanding musician and sportsman. He won titles in Field and Target Archery as well as Trapshooting. John was inducted into two Archery Halls of Fame winning two US National Titles. He won countless trophies in trapshooting especially in doubles and live birds. In 1988, John was inducted into the New York Trapshooting Hall of Fame.
From his earliest years, he sang in the church choir and as a soloist. He was gifted with a beautiful tenor voice. As a student he participated in All-County and All-State Choirs. He also played the trombone in band, being chosen for district and honor band. He won music awards and was offered a scholarship to Muskingum College in Ohio in 1955. He always enjoyed hunting deer, elk, antelope and caribou and coaching others. For more than 20 years, he was an active member of Beacon Baptist Church in Clay, NY. We will miss his wit and humor and his loving dedication to his family and friends.
A memorial service will be held on Wednesday May 17, 2023 at 10:00am at Beacon Baptist Church, 4800 NY-31, Clay, NY 13041.
