John S. Osgood

John Stuart Osgood, 95, of Cicero, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 5 at his home. He was born on August 12, 1925 in Claremont, NH, son of Charles Frederick Osgood and Mildred Monnett Bowers, and graduated from Stevens High School. John volunteered to join the US Army in 1943 at the age of 17. He was in the European Theater of Operations in WWII from August 1943 to October 1945, where he was in 5 campaigns in the 1st Army in Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. John graduated from Northampton Community college in 1948 and worked for Goodyear Aircraft in Canton, OH on the Atomic Energy Project. John entered Georgetown College in Georgetown, KY in 1950 and graduated in 1952 with a BA in Economics, minoring in Business and Sociology. John married Shirley Breen of North Syracuse on August 12, 1961.
Surviving are his siblings, Mary Irwin, and Stephen Osgood; his three children Karen (Robert) Blake, Brian Osgood, and Jon Osgood; and grandchildren Harley Osgood, Ethan Osgood, Conor Blake and Megan Blake. He is predeceased by his wife Shirley, his siblings Charles Frederick Osgood, Jr., Margaret Osgood, and Sarah Miller.
John worked for Herff Jones and will be remembered for the 30+ years he provided Central and Northern NY schools with yearbooks, class rings, diplomas, announcements, caps and gowns, and prom favors. He cherished his time working alongside students and inspiring editors and staff to build award winning yearbooks. John enjoyed skiing, ran 5Ks until his 70s, and had a long time interest in bird watching. He was an avid sports fan and loved music, especially big band. He took great pride in his children and grandchildren. He embraced life with enthusiasm, a positive attitude, gratitude and humility. Memorial contributions can be made to Honor Flight Syracuse (honorflightsyracuse.org/donations), and Silver Fox Senior Social Club at 22 E Genesee St, Baldwinsville, NY 13027.
A burial service will be held at Hillside Cemetery Central Square on August 12, 2021, to be followed by a memorial celebration.
