It is with a heavy heart, I share the news of the passing of Mr. John O'Reilly; affectionally known as Johnny O to all his friends. In his early years, John lived at SDC, later into family care for 15 years and then into the group homes, most recently Bradford. Johnny had many wonderful friends and caregivers in the IRA's and of course Westcott Day Hab over the past 53 years.
Johnny was a man of few words, but his eyes said it all. Johnny didn't miss anything going on around him. He would always have a smile for you, a twinkle in his eye, and loved a good joke. In fact, Johnny O and his roommate would bust out in laughter with some of their inside jokes and pranks. That deep down in the gut belly laugh will be greatly missed. Johnny may be the only Irishman we know, that did NOT like potatoes. In fact, in the early years when Johnny was able to eat, he would gag on food if he thought there was a hint of potatoes in it!! Johnny would prefer desserts and sweets over the typical meals; my kind of man .
While we will miss Johnny's infectious smile, we know he is now at peace and without pain and discomfort. Johnny's caretakers may be known as staff, but were, and are family. You will always be loved and remembered Johnny O.
