In loving memory of John A. Moatz 1940-2021
John was born in Syracuse, New York in 1940. Shortly after his time serving in the Army in South Korea and Honor Guard, he followed his brother to Anchorage Alaska where he worked in the oil exploration industry and offshore oil rigs in the 1960's. In the late 1960's, John made his way to Northern California where he met his eventual wife of 48 years, Noel, at the Sears & Roebuck in Vallejo, CA.
John was always a great storyteller, and full of information on many subjects.
With a thirst for knowledge and constantly reading in his earlier years subjects about American History, The Civil War, and Native Americans were always his favorite.
A quick witted, free spirited, spontaneous, and adventurous man who was always brutally honest. He always said, "if you don't want to know the truth, don't ask for my opinion".
Lover of all things outdoors, including the Adirondacks, and Alaska where he spent eight years. John spoke of Alaska often and with much fondness, so much so that if given the opportunity would have returned without hesitation. In his later years he enjoyed traveling to the Finger Lakes region of Upstate NY, especially to Wagner Winery where he would enjoy his favorite beer "Sled Dog".
John was proud of his only son and the life he has made for himself and his family and often said that "our son was a good man".
John always did his best to make everyone he met feel at ease and never met a stranger. With his dimpled smile, infectious laugh, and jokes John made friends with everyone wherever he went.
John leaves behind his wife Noel of 48 years, a son Brooks, daughter-in-law Mary along with one granddaughter Siena as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He will be forever in our hearts and never forgotten. In lieu of flowers in John's memory, contributions can be made to the Alzheimer's Association of CNY.
