John Charles Manion, 67, passed away unexpectedly in his home in Cicero, NY. Born in North Syracuse, John had a love for tinkering and taking apart things to find out how they were made. He had the ingenuity and knowledge to fix anything. He could often be found doing so as he enjoyed the country life on his 25 acre sheep farm where he did everything from bailing hay to growing hops; shearing sheep to chainsawing trees.
You could always find him out on his Farmall tractor or underneath fixing it. He would never buy or replace what he could fix himself. He worked for over 40 years in the technology repair field as a senior field engineer. He was never on time to anywhere– "Manion Time" they call it. But, he always had a quick joke and knew how to find the silver lining in every situation. He enjoyed being outdoors and was a Boy Scout leader and lifeguard instructor for many years. He enjoyed cruising in his 1964 Triumph TR4 sports car, hanging out by the campfire as well as frequenting local breweries. He loved his children dearly. He was always helping his kids in their projects whether it was fixing a lawnmower, metalsmithing, truck repair or home renovations. Out of all of his amazing qualities and accomplishments, he was the most proud of his kids. He will be missed by so many.
Surviving are his children, Julie and Jesse (Caitlin) Manion; his mother, Mary Anne, his sister, Lorraine (Don); his brother, Brian (Jennifer); his nieces, Caitlin (Tom Kraus, grandnephew Logan, grandniece Rowan) and Tara; his nephew,
Kasey; his good friend, Valerie Schond; his dog Roo; his granddogs Ellie and Lacey and his grandkitty, Dahlia. His father, Charles "Chuck", and the mother of his children, Trisha predeceased him.
Friends may call on Wednesday, January 11, 2023, from 4-7 PM at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, N. Syracuse. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Thursday, January 12th at St. Margaret's Church at 10 AM. Burial to follow in Pine Plains Cemetery, Clay.
