John J. Langan

John Langan, 86, passed away December 07, 2024.

He was born in 1938 in Scranton, PA and after high school graduation, he served in the US Navy for 2 years active duty and 4 years in the Naval Reserves. He was honored to be the first college graduate in a working-class family.

He had a rewarding career teaching both high school and college science and math at Newburgh Free Academy, Broome CC, and Cortland University. He also worked in computer software and systems.

The many career rewards don't hold a candle to raising three healthy, happy and successful children: John, Paul and Mark with Madeline Langan of Scranton and Ithaca. Later, he met and married Sheryl Aiello who devoted 35 years of inspired teaching in Syracuse.

After his retirement, he was a tremendous Syracuse volunteer who had been awarded for his contributions to the community. 

He is survived by his children, John (Rita), Paul, and Mark (Heather); grandchildren, Laura and Emily; brother, Thomas Langan (Mary Ann) of Venice, FL and his best friends, Robin Perras and Steven Setless.

Services will be private.
