John J. Wright

John J. (Jack) Wright, 83 of Cicero passed away on Monday after a long illness. John was born in Fulton on September 10, 1931 to the late William R. and Genevieve (McCormack) Wright. He was a graduate of Oswego High School and Niagara University. He served in the US Army from 1954-1956 and was stationed in Germany with the Occupation Forces. He married his wife Margaret A. Davis on December 26, 1953 and they enjoyed many happy years.
John was well-known in the Insurance Industry. He worked for Travelers Insurance for 15 years before joining the McDonough Agency in Oswego, which later became McDonough, McCormack, Wright. He later retired from the agency retired again from Fitzpatrick Nuclear Plant.
He was a very active community member. He was Treasurer of the Oswego Chamber of Commerce, served on the board at Oswego Catholic High School, a Member of the Knights of Columbus in Fulton and the Elks Club in Oswego. He even acted as Awards Chairman for his sons' Cub Scout Den.
John was an avid and talented musician. He was a member and conductor of the Jazz Band at Niagara University and played for many years with the Jack Ziel Orchestra, enjoying great popularity at dances, wedding and other functions throughout Central NY.
Jack and his wife raised 7 children. He enjoyed boating and fishing with them, and spending time at their cottages at Fair Haven and Demster Beach. He and Margaret enjoyed travel. They visited 15 European countries and 30 of the states during their retirement years. He especially loved Disney World, returning there 12 times, once with 16 family members.
Jack was pre-deceased by his parents and his brother Lt. Col Robert W. Wright.
He is survived by his wife, his sister Jane E. Wright of Oswego, children Lisa (Hugo)Robles of Cicero, Kristie Lilienthal of Sunset, SC, Mary (Richard) Kells of Cato, William of Syracuse, Robin Young (Michael D'Avirro) of Brewerton, Alan (Jamie) of Cicero and Jennifer (Timothy) Cullen of Loudenville. Grandchildren Alan, Anthony and Joseph Robles; Eric, Gregory and Karen Wright; Hailey and Sydney Wright; Allison and Davis Young and John Cullen, and several great-grandchildren.
There will be no calling hours. As Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Paul's Church in Oswego on Thursday 10:30am. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery in Fulton.
