John J. "Mac" McDonald

John J. "Mac" McDonald, 76, of Clay, passed away peacefully at home April 23rd. He was surrounded by family members.
John was born January 19, 1935 in Ballston Spa, NY. His parents were Joseph and Sadie McDonald. He graduated from Ballston Spa High School in 1953. John volunteered for the U.S. Army, serving from 1954-56. He received a BS in Social Sciences from Morehead State University, Kentucky in 1961, and an MS in Education from Cortland State in 1967. He taught American history at North Syracuse HS and C-NS for 30 years. "Coach Mac" had great success coaching soccer at North Syracuse HS, Nottingham HS, and C-NS HS, winning several league and Section 3 championships, as well as a quarter final appearance in the state soccer tournament. John was loved by many. He enjoyed family, friends, faith, and fishing.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Catherine Ryan of Delmar, NY; daughters Erin C. McDonald of Austin, TX, Jennifer L. McDonald of New Hartford, NY; son John J. McDonald III (Amy L. Widger) of Portland, OR, and grandsons Mark and Kyle Mallinger, Moyah Chongo, as well as three sisters and one brother.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Noon on June 30, 2011 at Sacred Heart Church, Cicero.
