John J. Corkran Sr.

John J. Corkran Sr., of Liverpool, passed away at home surrounded by his family on April 4, 2014.
John was born May 4, 1920 in Syracuse.
John was married to the love of his life for 72 years, Smiles.
John served his country in the Philippines during World War II. Upon his return from war, he went to work at New Process Gear in 1946 where he was one of the founding fathers of Local 624 UAW in 1957. John retired in 1983 after 37 years.
John was a lifetime member of the American Legion of East Syracuse and VFW Post 3146 of Mattydale where he was a Past Commander and Bar Manager.
John volunteered for the VA before the DAV was formed.
John was predeceased by his first son, John Richard.
John is survived by his wife Ethel "Smiles" Corkran; 9 children, starting with The Boss Sandra (Robert) Bambrick, Linda (Arthur) Corp, John J. (Dawn) Corkran Jr., Cheryl (Michael) DeBoer, Mark (Doreen) Corkran, George (Debbie) Corkran, James (Jaclyn) Corkran, Owen (Bonnie) Corkran and ending with The Baby Kevin (Lorielle) Corkran; 26 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren and his sister, Helen (Peter) Schinto.
There will be no services or calling hours but there will be a celebration of his life at the VFW in Mattydale, 2000 LeMoyne Ave. on Sunday, April 13 at 1:00pm.
