John William George Jr.

1930 — 2024

John W. George Jr., of Little Falls, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 22nd, 2024.

John dedicated his career to the public school systems in the Mohawk Valley, both as an educator, administrator, and dedicated husband, father, and grandfather.

John was born and raised in Little Falls, NY. He graduated from St. Mary’s Academy and was called to serve his country in Korea as an Air Force radio operator.

Upon his return from military service, John graduated from Syracuse University at Utica College. He started his career as a tax examiner for NYS and then became an auditor at General Electric. Soon after, he found his calling in a decades-long career as a business administrator in the Mohawk, Little Falls, and Ilion schools. After his retirement, John continued to serve as a substitute teacher in Dolgeville.

Outside of work, John found peace at the family camp on Pleasant Lake, participating in boating, watersports, and playing golf, all of which he spent countless summers with family and friends.

John was preceded in death by his parents, John and Alice (Sagatis) George and his brother Richard.

He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Marilyn (Dunn), and daughter, Rebecca Zimmerman (Robert Silfer); two grandchildren, Daniel (Shauna) Zimmerman and Erica (Mark) Bachman; sister Mary Alice Rieman; brothers Robert (Kathlyn) and Ronald; sisters-in-law Judith Helmer and Carol Dunn, and several generations of nieces and nephews.

At the request of the family, services will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to an educational cause of your choosing in John’s memory.
