John E. Figary

June 11, 1934 — May 29, 2024

John Edward Figary, 89, of Syracuse NY passed away peacefully on May 29, 2024 surrounded by family and loved ones after a brief battle with lung cancer.

John was born June 11, 1934 in Syracuse NY to Tracy and Alice Figary. He had one brother, two half-sisters and a half-brother.

John’s father was a corporal in the Army Infantry.

John joined the Navy at the age of 17. He served two tours during the Korean war (1951-1955). John was very proud of his service and the ship he served USS Ingraham, where he obtained the rank Machinist Mate(MM2). After his naval service he worked a few jobs until finally landing a successful career at Course Hinds. He used his Navy background as a foundry foreman for over 25 years.

John loved going to the USS Ingraham reunions where he would catch up with former shipmates. John had a love for life and was always busy. If you asked how he was doing he would answer I couldn’t be happier if I were twins. John would help at anytime for anything.

John was predeceased by his wife, Mary Figary of 32 years.

John is survived by his three children, John M. Figary, Sharon (Jeffrey) Hanzlik, and Marci Garboushian. John had seven grandchildren, Casandra Figary (Jon Inman), Katherine (Bill) Gergely, Alexander (Samantha) Hanzlik, Elizabeth Hanzlik, John M Figary Jr., Mitchell Garboushian and Jillianna Garboushian. John had three great-grandchildren, Jayse Inman, Aurbianna Hanzlik and Madalynn Hanzlik.
