John Downing

November 11, 1931 — July 11, 2016

John "Jack" Downing, 84, of N. Syracuse, passed away peacefully on Monday surrounded by his loving family.

Jack served in the US Marine Corps. at the Chosen Reservoir during the Korean War. He retired from Chrysler and was a Master cabinet maker. Jack enjoyed restoring street rods and military vehicles which were used in several parades. He always looked forward to his weekly poker games with his friends. Jack loved watching his grandchildren compete in sporting events.

Jack was predeceased by one brother, Donald Downing.

He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Betty; three children, Melinda Wiemeier, Martin (Cathleen) Downing and Michelle (Rick) Palmer; grandchildren, Jeremy, Jolene, Danielle, Michael, Cooper and Camryn; great-grandchildren, Cassie, James, Kailey and Colton; siblings, Pat, Alan, and Howard and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be Saturday, July 16th 12-4PM at North Syracuse Christian Church, 911 Church Street, N. Syracuse, NY 13212 with a service and military services to follow at 4PM.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
