John C. Gilbert, 91, formerly of Phoenix, NY, went home to be with his Savior, with his loving family by his side.
John was a lifelong active piano and organ player. He served in various positions in his church. He worked most of his life on the family farm and later retired from Gaylord Bros. in Liverpool, NY. John enjoyed gardening and woodworking with his wife. John will be remembered for the wooden toys that he made and gave to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
John was predeceased by his wife, Rosemary (VanAmber) and one infant son, Timothy Ben.
He is survived by 5 daughters, Martha (James) Snyder, Kathryn (Jerry) McLean, Rebeckah (Charles) Simmons, Debra (Robert) Hurd and Lois (Robert) Clark; 6 sons, John Amos (Cheryl), Paul (Karen), Mark (Karen), Daniel (Rebecca), Joseph (Sharon) and Thomas (Kimberly); 28 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; brother, Fred (Gloria) and many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be Friday 5-8PM at New Comer Funeral Home, N. Syracuse. A funeral service will be held on Saturday 11AM at First Baptist Church, Phoenix with burial to follow in the Phoenix Rural Cemetery. In Lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church in Phoenix.
