John Nicholas Betts Sr.

John Nicholas Betts Sr., better known as “Pa,” 79, of Central Square, NY, passed away on January 11, 2025. 

John was born in Syracuse, NY, on March 11, 1945 to Donald and Helen Betts. 

He worked for the Teamster Union for many years. In his free time, John enjoyed fishing, four-wheeling, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

John is survived by the mother of his children, Margaret Galarneau; children, John (Shirley) Betts of Central Square, Michael (Catherine) Betts of Solvay; and a nephew, who was like a son to him, Donald (Chris) Stoddard of Cicero. John has five grandchildren, Makalah (Nicholas) Hann, Nicholas (Jenna) Betts, Jacob (Kaylee) Betts, Kristopher Betts, and Zachary Betts. He also has two great-grandchildren, Kayden Betts and Madeline Hann. 

John’s children and grandchildren meant the world to him. He leaves behind multiple siblings, nieces, nephews, extended family, and lifelong friends. 

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 17, 2025 from 2 to 5 p.m. at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 705 N. Main Street, North Syracuse, NY. 

We would love for everyone to join us for a celebration of life starting at 5:30 p.m. at the American Legion in Central Square.
