Joan D. Masucci

January 29, 1932 — November 22, 2020

Joan D Masucci, beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, died peacefully at home, November 22, 2020, in Baldwinsville, at the age of 88. She was born on January 29, 1932 to Florence and Joseph Nelipowitz of Park Street, Syracuse.

Joan was predeceased by her husband of 44 years, Nicholas J. Masucci; two sisters, Rita Wilhelm and Mary Bartosch; and her brother Joseph Nelipowitz.

Joan and Nick raised five children together in a three bedroom, one bath, home on the Northside of Syracuse. Joan would often send one of her kids to the corner grocery store while she hung laundry in the yard. After supper, Joan and Nick would parade the whole family around the block to visit with neighbors or catch up with family, most of whom lived nearby.

Joan is also survived by her five children, Nicholas Masucci (Tracy), Michael Masucci (Stacey), Joann Hobin (Todd), John Masucci (Anne), and Michele Kociuba; ten grandchildren, Cynthia Bunge (Ed), Nicholas Masucci Jr. (Lisa), Jamie Erickson (Paul), Lindsay Ahern (Sean), Ryan Westerdahl (Nicole), Mandy Nordin (Adam), Michael Masucci Jr. (Ashley), Samantha Fauler (Fred), Jacqueline Collins (Clem), and John Masucci Jr.; and seven great grandchildren with another on the way.

Joan was full of life and love. She never passed up an opportunity for fun and adventure; from diving off the tops of bridges in her youth, to blazing a trail down the St. Lawrence River on a jet ski well into her eighties. Joan knew how to enjoy life. She and her husband, Nick, embarked on several cruises with good friends, memories that kept her smiling and laughing through the years. She was an avid football fan from the time she attended her first Super Bowl, and could recite statistics with the best of them. Joan cherished going to 'camp' on the St. Lawrence River, where she spent many summers, making memories with family, good friends, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Joan was a devout Catholic for all of her life, and was a communicant of Assumption Church for most of her life. She graduated from Assumption Academy, and went to work for the telephone company after graduating, and before starting her family.

Because of safety concerns, services will be private. A celebration of Joan's life will be announced in the spring.

Donations may be made to St. Jude's Hospital, where Joan would pay her debts to Jesus for answering her prayers.

Devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother: We love you, our angel. Rest in peace.
