Joan Heffernan Spears Hand, 81, 0f Manlius died Sunday at Iroquois Nursing Home. She was predeceased by parents, Frank and Lena Heffernan, brothers, John and William Heffernan and a sister, Blanche Waite.
Joan is survived by a son, Charles Spears of E. Syracuse; daughters, Cheryl (Gerry) Ferris of Scituate, Ma, and Charry (Bill) Walters of Georgetown, NY; daughter-in-law, Marjorie Spears of Cazenovia; brothers, Malcolm Heffernan of Manlius and Charles Heffernan of Savannah, Ga; sisters, Elinor Hughes of Manlius and Lenora (Ed) Bobbette of Fabius; seven grandsons, five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Joan has donated her body to the Anatomical Gift Program at SUNY Upstate. Joan requested there be no services or calling hours.
Contributions in Joan's memory may be made to the American Legion Auxiliary, Post 141, at 109 Fayette St., Manlius, NY 13104
Joan's family would like to acknowledge and thank the 2nd floor staff at Iroquois Nursing Home for the extraordinary care and love they showed her during her five months in residence there.
