Joan E. Mayer, 81, of Syracuse, went peacefully from her home, to be with the Lord, on Wednesday. Joan was born on October 14, 1929 to John and Marion (Gieselman) Furze. Joan graduated from Central High School and attended Syracuse University. She was employed by NY Telephone Co. and Onondaga County Children's Division. Joan enjoyed many happy times and memories of Sandy Pond and Skaneateles where she spent summers with all her family. Joan was the Matriarch of her extended family. Her wisdom, sense of humor, imagination and positive attitude will be forever missed. She is predeceased by her husband, Robert F. Mayer (2002); son, Robert Christopher Mayer (2004).
Survived by her loving family; daughter, Mary Martha Collier; son, Daniel (Kim) Mayer; grandson, Ben (Sarah) Collier; granddaughters, Danielle and Morgan Mayer; brothers, John (Dolores) Furze and Ted Furze; sister, Jude (Mike) Timmins; several nieces and nephews; and her special "Baby" her cocker spaniel, Abbey.
Services will be Saturday, 11AM at New Comer Funeral Home, 705 N. Main St., N. Syracuse. Burial will follow at Onondaga Valley Cemetery. A Calling Hour will be Saturday from 10-11AM at the funeral home, before services.
