Jay V. Clarke

Jay V. Clarke, 82, passed away at his home in North Syracuse, NY. He was born in Syracuse, NY on May 23, 1930 to the late James R. Clarke and his wife, Marie. Mr. Clarke was a life resident of Syracuse, NY and graduated from Eastwood High School in 1948. While in high school, he received All City Honors in both football and basketball. Upon his high school graduation, Mr. Clarke proudly served his nation as a paratrooper for the US Army's 82nd Airborne Division from 1949 – 1952. Upon leaving the service, Mr. Clarke graduated from SUNY Cortland in 1956 with a BS in Recreation Education. After a brief stint as a recreation director, Mr. Clarke went on to become a chief electrician with the Niagara Mohawk Power Corp. retiring after 36 years in 1993. He was also a coach/manager for the North Syracuse Little League for many years and a volunteer for the Cicero High School and later, CNS Sports Booster Club. He helped construct Lonergan Little League Field and the original football stadium at Cicero High School. He is predeceased by his wife, Rose; brother, James; grandson, David.
He is survived by his five children, Jay R. (Alison) Clarke of Potomac, MD, Robert T. (Jacqueline) Clarke of Liverpool, NY, David C. (Carole) Clarke of Omaha, NE, Ellen M. (Thomas) Carroll of Rochester, NY and Peter J. Clarke of Annapolis, MD; He leaves behind nine grandchildren; sister, Alice Fehlman; brother, Donald "Ted" Clarke; and several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4-7 PM at New Comer Funeral Home, 705 North Main Street, North Syracuse. Services will follow at 7 PM. Burial will be Private.
