Janet (Cangemi-Hull) Valletta

Janet (Cangemi-Hull) Valletta, 85 of Fairmount, NY entered the Kingdom of Heaven surrounded by her family with grace and dignity on March 28, 2025. Janet was born on February 3, 1940 in Syracuse, NY.

She began working as a young teenager at Ben Franklin, then for Fay’s Drugs before she began her long career with Onondaga County, first in the Budget Department and then in the Sheriff’s Department, where she retired as the secretary to the late Sheriff John Dillion. Janet had a heart of gold, a beautiful smile, and unconditional love for her family and friends.

 In retirement, Janet and her husband Bill traveled to FL and NC and spent many winters as “snowbirds”. She loved to cook and bake as well as playing slots at the casino, dancing, playing cards and shopping at Bon-Ton in Camillus. She was a member of St. Joseph’s and Holy Family Church. While at St. Joseph’s, she devoted an hour each Monday for 17 plus years sitting in Adoration for the Blessed Virgin Mary.

 Janet leaves behind the love of her life, her husband, William “Bill” Valletta of over 40 years; her only daughter, Tricia Ann Pikarsky and her husband, Darrin of NC; bonus sons, William “Billy” Jr. of NY, Mark and his wife, Tracy of FL; bonus daughters, Patsy Ast and her husband, Stephen of PA and Stacy Benesch and her husband Steve of NY; bonus grandchildren, Johnny, Chase, Cade, Jessica, Danielle, Jared, Stephanie, Kyle, Richard and Cassidy along with several bonus great-grandchildren; sister, Cindy Smolen and her husband, Frank of NY; brother, Richard; brothers-in-law, Frank and his wife Mary, Robert and his wife, Maureen; sister-in-law, BettyJane Kranz and her husband, Fred all of FL; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.

 Predeceased by her parents, Anthony and Grace (Petrocci) Cangemi; in-laws, Frank and Bettina (Betty Bianchi) Valletta; bonus daughter-in-law, Pamela (Godfrey) Valletta and her cousins/best friends, Fran Storrings and Marie Allen.

 She was loved by many and honored to be called wife, Momma, Grandma Janet, Nana, Auntie, Aunt Janet and Jan.

 Her husband and daughter would especially like to thank her amazing caregivers, Lisa B. and Stephanie D. for their genuine love and care over many long months, as well as her Hospice Nurse, Sara M., Social Worker, Emily and Pastor Mike, as all navigated together to give her the best life possible with Alzheimer’s.

 There will be no services. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of CNY or The Alzheimer’s Association.
