James R. Westcott, affectionately known as “Grumpy,” passed away on March 6, 2025, in Syracuse, New York, at the age of 66. Born on April 1, 1958, in Jordan NY, he led a life filled with love, adventure, and dedication to his family and community. James enjoyed a fulfilling career, retiring from J.C. Smith. An avid outdoorsman, he found immense joy in hunting and fishing, relishing every moment spent amid nature. His adventurous spirit extended to the racetracks and was a long-time member of the Syracuse Microd Club. He shared his enthusiasm for racing with his daughter, niece, Madison and granddaughter, Cecilia. A devoted father, James cherished spending time with his children. He proudly coached their sports teams. His commitment to his community was reflected in his service as a volunteer firefighter with the Lakeland and Solvay Fire Departments. James was a loving Husband, Father, Papa, Uncle and Friend who will be missed by all who knew him.
James was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Candy S. Westcott; his parents, Viola and Richard Westcott; and his sister, Diane Phillips.
He is survived by his daughter, Ashley (Justin) Walker; son, James Westcott; grandchildren, Cecilia and Henry; siblings, John (Shelly) Westcott, Janet (Jeff) Lazore, and Susan Coyle; along with several Nieces and Nephews..
Calling hours will be held on March 13, 2025, from 5 - 7PM, followed by a Funeral Service at 7PM at New Comer Cremations & Funerals. James will be laid to rest on March 14, 2025, at 10AM in North Syracuse Cemetery.
His children would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to those who helped keep James home as long as he could.
Memorial contributions may be made in James memory to St Jude Children's Hospital.
