James A. Voutsinas, Sr.

James Voutsinas, Sr., 80, passed away peacefully on Friday April 3, 2009 at Francis House surrounded by his loving family. Born and raised in Syracuse, he was known to his friends as Mr. V. He graduated from the Smith School of Music and taught guitar and keyboard for many years including at West Genesee High School. He was also a chef at many well known restaurants and also owned and operated the B-Brite Restaurant along with his father Van in the early 1960's. In his retirement, he often entertained the residents of local nursing homes.
Jim was also an avid bicyclist often riding in many local bike-a-thons. In recent years he studied Karate at the CNY School of Karate and earned his black belt in 2006 and his second degree black belt in 2008, becoming the oldest person in Onondaga County to achieve these honors.
He was pre-deceased by his first wife Katherine in1987.
He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Lorraine; three sons and daughters-in law, James Jr. and Anne Marie of Fayetteville; Calvin and Evelyn of Camillus; Donald and Lynn of Baldwinsville; daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Tim O'Connor of Liverpool; 13 grandchildren, D.J., Danielle, Michael, Tracey, Susan, Steven, and Andrea Voutsinas; Jennifer and Christine O'Connor; Travis, Troy, and Cory Killian; and Evan Medina.; 2 sisters-in-law, Joyce Bain of Michigan and Gretchen Steppenback of Dewitt and 2 brothers-in-law Frederick and Edward Clark of Florida, and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be Tuesday, 10AM at the Pitcher Hill Community Church. Burial will follow in White Chapel Memory Gardens. Calling Hours will be Monday from 4-7PM at New Comer Funeral Home, 705 N. Main St., North Syracuse.
