James D. Larmondra, born on December 29, 1948, passed away on October 9, 2024 from the progressive and fatal disease of ALS; which he faced with strength and courage. He lived a life of remarkable service and dedication, marked by his profound impact on the communities of Oswego and Onondaga Counties. For twelve years, James served as a probation officer, a role that underscored his commitment to justice and rehabilitation. He was also a substance abuse counselor for an impressive fifty years, dedicating his career to guiding countless individuals through their paths to recovery. His contributions to the Salvation Army as a substance abuse counselor and supervisor at an inpatient facility in Syracuse further exemplified his compassionate spirit.

James's passion for teaching was evident as he conducted substance abuse re-credentialing courses for counselors at Onondaga Community College and Cayuga Community College, often alongside his cherished wife, Karen. Their collaboration not only enriched the educational landscape but also showcased the deep bond they shared through their mutual commitment to helping others.

A truly unforgettable presence, James was known for his magnetic personality and infectious sense of humor. He possessed an extraordinary gift for making anyone feel at ease, often brightening the day of those around him with his positivity. His ability to connect with people, whether they walked on two legs or four, was a testament to his open-hearted nature and genuine curiosity about life's experiences.

Among the cherished memories James leaves behind are those of marrying his beloved wife, Karen, and traveling across the United States with friends. He fondly recalled the many cruises he took with his parents and siblings, exploring the Caribbean, Europe, and Alaska; Iceland held a special place in his heart as his favorite destination. He had a profound love for all creatures big and small, frequently welcoming various animals into his garage, a reflection of his compassionate spirit.

James is survived by his devoted wife, Karen Larmondra; his son, Christopher; daughters, Tanya, Amanda, Alissa, Jessica, and Jackie; as well as his siblings Robert, Susan, and Faye. He was also blessed with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought immense joy to his life.

He was predeceased by his parents, Joseph R. and Ruth Larmondra; parents-in-law, Jules and Annette Godel; his son, Michael; his daughter, Alaina; and his brother, Thomas. James D. Larmondra leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and laughter that will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
