James J. Blackmon, 73, of Syracuse died Friday at Crouse Hospital. Mr. Blackmon retired from Bristol-Myers Squibb. James was a founding member and Deacon of New Beginnings Unity Missionary Baptist Church. He was predeceased by a sister, Ora DeBrown.
Surviving are his wife of 54 years the former Sara Brown; two sons, James (Pamela) and Sebastian Blackmon; two daughters, Orlinda Blackmon and Yolanda (Leonard) Alford; five brothers, Jimmy, Edward, Harold, Coleman and Marty Blackmon; two sisters, Dorothy Broughton and Katherine Charles; seven grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Services will be Saturday 1 p.m. at New Beginning Unity Missionary Baptist Church, Syracuse. Burial will be private. Calling hour will be Saturday from 12-1 p.m. at the church, 588 Delaware St.
