James Edward Swanson, Sr., 80, of West Monroe passed away peacefully at his home. He served in the US Army and retired from Lamson Diebold Corp. after 28 years. Jim rode with the Syracuse Auxiliary Police, was a certified EMT with EAVES, he was a NYS Hunter Safety Instructor for 20 years and Jim was president of the Local Steel Workers Union in Syracuse. His greatest passion was hunting, fishing and enjoying the outdoors.

Surviving are his beloved wife, Donna of 50 years, 4 sons; James, Jr., Michael, Donnie & Danny (Tiffany) Swanson, 4 daughters; Melody Roy, Sherry (Bud) Flansburg, Dawn Reynolds & Misty Clark (Stephen Auringer), 26 grandchildren including Danielle & Tori, which he helped raise, along with 10 great grandchildren.

Calling hours will be held on Friday from 5-7pm at New Comer Funeral Home, 705 N. Main St., N. Syracuse, with services at 7:00pm..
