James E. "Jim" Hughes, 74 , of Clay, passed away on Thursday at his home with family by his side. He was born on Jan. 4, 1938 in Syracuse, son of James J. and Edna Hughes. He was owner of the Buttermaid Bakery in N. Syracuse and owner of Hughes Cottage Bake Shop in Cicero. Jim was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Cicero.

Surviving are his wife, Paulette, of 52 years, son, James J. Hughes, Clay, 2 daughters; Diane (Ken) Frank, Rochester, Jacqueline (David) Coss, N. Syracuse, 15 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, 2 sisters; Carol Cogan and Marilyn White. He was predeceased by a daughter, Michelle Stanton in 2011.

Calling hours will be held on Monday from 4-6pm at New Comer Funeral Home, 705 N. Main St., North Syracuse. Services will be held on Tuesday 9:30 am at Sacred Heart Church in Cicero. Entombment will be in St. Mary's Mausoleum in DeWitt.

Contributions may be made to Hospice of CNY or to the Shriner's Hospital.
