James J. Barry

January 9, 1933 — November 11, 2018

Jim passed away peacefully in his home Sunday, November 11 with his daughter by his side. Known as "Samson" by his close friends in America and in his hometown of Listowel, Co. Kerry Ireland, Jim moved to Syracuse in 1963. He worked as a union plumber in Syracuse before moving to Oswego, where he was known as "Irish", and lived for over 30 years.

Jim loved to fish and recount memories of catching Salmon on the River Feale in Listowel, or perch and bass at Pillar Point, Lake Ontario. Everyone who knew Jim has heard stories of the fish he's caught, and even some stories of those that got away!

Jim is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Angela and Chris Melfi; grandsons, Patrick (Erin) and Christopher; as well as, his sisters, Eileen of Dublin, Breda of Listowel, Jane and May of the UK, and brothers, Patsy and John of Listowel.

He was predeceased by his wife, Mary O'Carroll; his parents, and siblings Bob, Michael, Hanny, and Liz.

Calling hours will be held at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 705 N. Main St. in North Syracuse on Thursday, November 15 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. A funeral service will be held at Most Holy Rosary Church, 111 Roberts Ave in Syracuse on Friday, November 16 at 10 am.
