Jack B. Miller of Baldwinsville, NY passed away at the age of 90 at Oswego Hospital on December 30, 2018 after a short illness.
He was born in Lincoln, Nebraska on June 29, 1928, the son of Helen and Milburn Miller. His father farmed near Denton, Nebraska during some of the worst droughts, clouds of crop eating grasshoppers, hail, etc. that ever occurred. After 7 hopeless years, the family moved to Southern Wisconsin and started Dairy Farming. Jack completed grade school in a one room country schoolhouse and attended High School in South Wayne, Wisconsin.
He enlisted in the US Navy at the age of 17 in 1945. After being discharged from the Navy in 1949, he attended the University of Wisconsin on the G.I. Bill, graduating with a B.S. degree in Metallurgical Engineering.
He worked in the Aluminum industry for 17 years at various companies in Iowa, Illinois, Ohio and New York as a Metallurgist, Melting Superintendent and Plant Manager. After this he was a partner in a Hazardous Waste Incineration operation which failed, followed by a Transportation Agency for long haul trucking with his second wife, which he morphed into a Hazardous Waste Transpoartation Company permitted in 48 states. They later formed a company called Saldot Corporation that arranged for the final disposition of Industrial waste. They operated these companies until retirement in 2006.
Jack was predeceased by is second wife, the beautiful and talented, Dorothy J. Miller.
Surviving are a son and two daughters with his first wife, Dorothy A. Miller (deceased), Sherry Miller of Freeport, IL; Curtis (Janice) of Sugarland, TX and Beth (Joe) Zimmerman of Browntown, WI. He was also blessed with 5 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, January 6th 1-3pm at New Comer Cremations & Funerals in N. Syracuse with a service to follow at 3pm. A memorial service and burial will take place in South Wayne, WI at a later date.
