Jack Thayer Edward, Jr., 77, died on April 20, 2023 at Oneida Healthcare in Oneida, NY. Jack was the son of the late Grace Chamberlin Edward Cabral and the step-son of the late George J. Cabral, Jr. of Middletown, RI both of whom he adored. Jack was big brother to Diane Edward-Berry of Westernville, NY. He is survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Vern Berry, as well as numerous cousins and friends all across the country. A native Rhode Islander, he moved to Verona, NY to be closer to his sister.
Jack was born in Newport, RI and attended Newport public schools and attended Rogers High School. He earned his GED in the US Navy. He attended Emmanuel Church in Newport. Jack started a long and successful career in hotel, food and beverage management by being a busboy and bellman at the historic Viking Hotel in Newport, RI when he was a teenager. After his military service, he resumed his career in the hotel and restaurant business with various titles of manager of chains of hotels to food and beverage management of many more. Jack was a kind and generous friend to many and a wonderful big brother. He was an excellent chef, gardener, carpenter, landscaper and his creative energies were seen around his home especially at Christmas. He was very proud of his holiday decorations. He enjoyed keeping an eye on and caring for his neighbors.
Jack specifically requested no services. He was never good at goodbyes. He will be missed terribly and lovingly remembered until we see him again. He would want to thank everyone for their friendships. Jack was buried in a meadow in a "green cemetery" near Ithaca, NY by his choosing. Contributions in his memory may be made to your local pet shelter or Lupus Foundation of America.
