J. Tom Mortell, 77, of Dewitt, passed away peacefully at home with his family at his side, after fighting a long battle with cancer. Tom was a veteran serving in the US Navy from1951-1959 He worked for John R. Dudley Const., Bat-Con Const. and North Country Contractors. He enjoyed playing pool and competed in many tournaments, golfing and most importantly, family time.
He is survived by his lifelong friend, Karan; daughters, Catherine (John) Carter, Patricia (Andrew) Schiano and Maureen (Michael) Avery; seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; brother, Walter Gasiorowski; sister, Arlene Vespa; and several nieces and nephews.
Services will be Thursday 10 AM at Holy Cross Church, Syracuse, NY. Burial will follow at Assumption Cemetery. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4-7PM at New Comer Funeral Home, 705 N. Main St., N. Syracuse.
Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
