Ivor Nelson Milcarek passed away peacefully on 25 October after a short illness. He was born 28 November 1923 to Ellen (Vile) and Martin Milcarek in Alexander, NY. During W.W.II he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps and was stationed in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, with the Alaskan Division. He met his future wife, Shirley Barry, at a USO dance there. Married in 1946, they settled in Syracuse in 1948 and lived in Camillus for the past 56 years.

Ivor, who loved working with wood and decided on a vocation as a carpenter, was a self-employed contractor for nearly 40 years. He built, remodeled or put additions on dozens of houses in central New York. After retiring, they spent many winters in Scottsdale, Arizona, where Ivor kept active volunteering with Habitat for Humanity and gleaning fruit for the local food banks. While at home he was active in the Camillus Elks and volunteered at the Camillus Erie Canal Park. He enjoyed reading about history and science. Ivor and Shirley traveled extensively and were always ready for an adventure.

Ivor also liked solving puzzles, telling silly jokes ("What's the difference between illegal and unlawful?..") anwould happily recite the alphabet backwards upon request.

Survivors include Shirley, his wife of 67 years, daughter Doreen (Ken Burke), son Kevin, and grandchildren Heather (Mike), Rory, Katie and Neil. Others who will miss him include Pam Milcarek, sisters Ellen Meier of Alexander and Mabel Graf of Attica, NY, and several nieces and nephews. Ivor was predeceased by son Barry, sister Winnifred Stedman and brother Ronald.

The family wishes to express appreciation to the staff of the Syracuse Veterans Hospital Floors 6 and 8. A Celebration of Ivor's life will be November 9th 1-4PM at Camillus Elks Lodge, 6117 Newport Rd., Camillus. Donations in Ivor's name may be made to Camillus Erie Canal Park (52 First Street Apt 2 Camillus, NY 13031. Checks should be made to Camillus Canal Society.)or Habitat.

"I think that I shall never see a poem lovely as a tree." (Joyce Kilmer)
