Isabel “Pat" Owens, 87, passed away on February 4, 2025, at home with her family by her side. Born on May 23, 1937, in Winchester, New Hampshire, she lived a life defined by dedication to family, hard work, and faith. Isabel made Cicero her home for the last 60 years where she tended to her large family and made many lifelong friends. She was very well known as the “spoon playing lady” carried her own spoons and captured everyone’s attention when she played them. If you saw her play, you never forgot her.
After graduating from Vilas High School in 1955, Isabel enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving as an Airman Second Class until her honorable discharge in 1958. Her time in the military instilled a strong sense of discipline and service that remained with her throughout her life.
Following her military service, Isabel worked for many years as a bartender at the Mayberry Inn, where she became a familiar and beloved presence. Even after retiring at 65, she continued working right up to July of 2024 when she became ill as a cashier at Dollar Tree, always enjoying the opportunity to connect with people.
Isabel had a deep love for golfing and bowling and as most know had quite the competitive side. She found joy in crocheting Afghans to give as heartfelt gifts. She was known for her kindness and generosity, not only as a devoted mother to six children but also as a caring figure to all the neighborhood kids. Her ideology was an important part of her life, guiding her values and relationships.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Charles (Chuck) Owens of 58 years ; her sister Joyce McCue; her brother Earl Buffum; her children Christine Ackerman (Mark), Tom Atkins (Stacey), Kevin Atkins (Chrys), and Ed Atkins; stepchildren Linda Krupka, Charles (Laurie) Owens Jr., Cathy Isbell (Randy), and Mark Owens; as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her mother Evelyn Buffum and her brothers Art, William, Jr, a sister Mildred, sons William and Richard Atkins; and stepson Steve Owens.
A memorial service will be held on February 15, 2025, at the Church of Christ, 4268 Wetzel Road, Liverpool, New York. Visitation will take place from 1:00 to 1:30 PM, followed by the service at 1:30 PM. A celebration of her life will be planned at a later date.
