Irmgard Shoninger-MacArthur "Irmi", 82, of Syracuse, passed away on February 24, 2022. Irmi was born in Bremerhaven, Germany on January 22, 1940, and has resided in the Syracuse area for the majority of her adult life.
Irmi was a retired Advertising Account Executive for the Syracuse Chamber of Commerce, where she spent many years building friendships and serving the community. She enjoyed classical music, nature, reading, was an avid tennis player, loved gardening, and cherished time with her children and grandchildren.
Irmi was predeceased by her husband and soulmate, Gordon MacArthur, her brother Hans, and sister, Margaret. She is survived by her brother, Dieter (Edie) Sturcken, her daughters; Ina (John) DiGangi, Wendy (Mike) Sherman, and Stephanie (Eric) Gay, as well as her "unnatural" son, Patrick (Brandy) Stapleton.
She leaves behind eight grandchildren; Ashley (Chris DeHority) Gay, Joe (Mary) DiGangi, Greg, Courtney, Kelsey and Kaitlyn Parks, Matthew and Rachel Zippi as well as three great-grandchildren.
Pursuant to Irmi's request, in lieu of a traditional memorial service, her children and grandchildren will hold a private Celebration of Life on Mother's Day weekend.
