Indira Koshy, Md

May 28, 1937 — April 3, 2022

Indira Koshy, 84, a long-time resident of the Syracuse area, went home to the Lord she loved and served on Sunday, April 3, 2022.

Indira was born in the city of Jodhpur, India, in 1937, to John and Dinah Perry. Her family is originally from Gujarat, India and they moved back there for much of her childhood. She graduated from Gujarat University and went on to complete her Medical degree from Vellore Christian Medical College, one of the most prestigious medical schools in India. Indira became an eye surgeon and served in a mission hospital in Nadiad, India. While there, God used Indira to establish a ministry, UESI Nadiad, which continues until today and has helped many in Gujurat, India.

She moved to Syracuse to marry T. E. Koshy. Together they founded a ministry, International Friendship Evangelism, and a church, International Assembly. Indira went on ministry trips all over the globe with her family and impacted many with her faith and love. She led many to the Lord and mentored them. Some of her and her family's ministry and life stories she and her husband wrote about in the book The Invested Life: Making Disciples of All Nations One Person at a Time which is authored by Joel C. Rosenberg and T. E. Koshy.

Indira was a loving wife and caring mother to her family. She was a strong ministry partner to her husband. She had a smile that lit up a room and a caring, generous heart, practicing hospitality in her home and in the community on a weekly basis. She mentored and cared for many through her church and ministry involvement, and her patients loved her.

Indira worked at many local hospitals, and at Syracuse University Health Center, caring for the Syracuse University community. She then had her own private practice in Lakeland/Solvay for many years as a beloved family practice physician.

She is survived by her son, Jay Koshy; his wife, Susi; and grandchildren, Joshua and Sophia; as well as siblings, Usha Merchant, Anil Perry, and Renu Bhutiani; and nephews and nieces.
